Today...

You are pregnant today….
You are standing at the bottom of the steps
Looking as beautiful and radiant as you can be….
Holding your belly to catch your breathe
With you Dee and Precious running around your
Unpainted toes….
You were wearing that sailor outfit
You know the one with the blue
And short sleeves that showed off the tattoo on your
Ankle and the one on your wrist…
It was cute, your hair was straight
From your hair not wanting to take
A perm….
You looked up at me kinda as if you were gazing
Into the sun…
With that little squint that you do
When something is too bright;
You know me- outside wiping the car down listening
To loud music…
It was Boy II Men (you remember)
At that moment you had a lot of different
Looks that equaled or meant one thing
You were complete….
But I questioned it really…
The look was that of one where you looked as though
You were ready for the baby to come right then
But you could also see that you were thanking
God for blessing you with what you asked for….
These are the times that I play over and over in my mind….
No tears, just a smile on my face as people pass me in the
Other lane staring wonder what in the world
I am smiling about so early in the morning…
I wonder though as I pull the car into the parking lot of my job….

I took my morning drive to work today,
I enjoy my drive to work in the morning most
Of the time…
I day dreamed as the sun shined through the trees and played tricks with my eyes, from the glare,
As the sun peeked through…
It went on
for miles and miles…
as I drove down this nostalgic back road
I thought of you lying there in the bed next to me,
sleeping so quietly and peaceful, (yes, I remember it like it was yesterday.)
feather blanket and pillows keeping you warm and safe….
sun shining off your beautiful hair.
So, as I lay there watching you with excitement and joy
wondering what did I do to deserve you?
I suddenly come to a stop sign in the road
As I hit the blinker and turn my head to the right
in my mind the light turns to dark….
I am left standing alone in the abyss…
not only in my mind…
but in my heart the harsh reality of it all is that I got what I deserved….
regretting life without you.

...and if I had said to you:

...."you know, you have been on my mind all day. Maybe that should have been my clue to call you sooner...you know its funny, I paused a moment and thought....sometimes I enjoy just thinking about you."
